Eugenol is naturally present in essential oils such as clove oil, clove basil oil and cinnamon oil, etc. It is a colorless to light yellow thick oily liquid with a strong clove and pungent aroma. At present, the industrial production of eugenol, mostly from the eugenol-rich essential oils through the alkali treatment of single isolated and obtained. Usually with sodium hydroxide solution added to the separated oil, heating and stirring, will float in the liquid surface of the non-phenolic part of the oil with solvent extraction or steam evaporation, and then add acid acidification of sodium salt to get crude eugenol, washed with water to neutral, and then vacuum distillation can be obtained by pure eugenol.
