Chemical Properties Of Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
Hydroxypropyl Cellulose is obtained by treating cellulose with alkali and propylene oxide.
White or slightly yellow or gray granules or fibrous powder. Odorless and tasteless, combustible, thermoplastic. Dissolves in water into transparent to milky white viscous colloidal solution. Soluble in polar organic solvents, soluble in water at room temperature, also soluble in water, methanol, ethanol and other organic solvents.Stability of Hydroxypropyl CelluloseStable. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. Combustible.
Uses of Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
(1) Emulsifier, coating agent, protective colloid, stabilizer, suspending agent, thickener.
(2) Used as binder and film-forming agent in pharmaceutical industry, film-forming agent, dispersant, stabilizer, thickener in cosmetics, paint and ink industry.
(3) Used as adhesive: In the pharmaceutical field, this product is mainly used as binder, such as tablets, granules, fine particles of the binder, generally 1-5% of the weight of the agent, choose RT-L or RT-J type.
(4) Used as film coating material for tablets, HPC has excellent film-forming property, the film obtained is tough and elastic, and can be compared with plasticizers, and the performance of the film can be further improved by mixing with other anti-temperature coating agents. Generally, RT-L type is used.
(5) It is used as thickener of elixir, additive of detergent and stabilizer of emulsion. RT-M type is generally used.
