Product Information

Methanol, also known as hydroxymethane, wood alcohol or wood spirits, is an organic compound and the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol, with the chemical formula CH3OH/CH4O, molecular weight 32.04 and boiling point 64.7°C. It has the names "wood alcohol" and "wood spirits" because it was once produced mainly by extracting wood vinasse (one of the products of wood distillation or cracking). Methanol has the name of "wood alcohol" and "wood spirit", which originates from the fact that its main production method was once extracted from wood vinasse (one of the products of dry distillation or cracking of wood). Modern methanol is manufactured directly from carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen in a catalyzed industrial process. Methanol is light, volatile, colorless, flammable, and has an odor very similar to ethanol (drinking alcohol). However, unlike ethanol, methanol is highly toxic and should not be consumed. It is commonly used as a solvent, antifreeze, fuel or denaturant ethanol, and can also be used to produce biodiesel through transesterification.Methanol can also be used as Pesticide Intermediates in the production of pesticide prodrugs.

Uses of methanol

1. One of the basic Organic Raw Materials, used in the manufacture of chloromethane, methylamine and dimethyl sulfate and many other organic products. It is also a raw material of pesticide (insecticide, acaricide), medicine (sulfonamides, synthomycin, etc.), and one of the raw materials for synthesizing dimethyl terephthalate, methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate.
2. The main application area of methanol is the production of formaldehyde, which can be used to produce adhesives, mainly used in the wood processing industry, followed by the use of molded plastics, paints, textiles and paper, etc. as a treatment agent.
3. Another major use of methanol is the production of acetic acid. Acetic acid consumption accounts for about 7% of the global demand for methanol, which can produce vinyl acetate, acetate fiber and acetate, etc. Its demand is closely related to the demand for coatings, adhesives and textiles.
4. Methanol can be used to manufacture methyl formate, which can be used to produce formic acid, formamide and other fine chemicals, as well as insecticides, fungicides, fumigants, tobacco treatments, and gasoline additives.
5. Methanol can also be used to manufacture methylamine, which is an important fatty amine, with liquid nitrogen and methanol as raw materials, it can be processed and separated into monomethylamine, dimethylamine and trimethylamine, which is one of the basic chemical raw materials.
6. Methanol can be synthesized into dimethyl carbonate, which is an environmentally friendly product used in pharmaceuticals, agriculture and specialty industries, etc.
7. Methanol can be synthesized into ethylene glycol, which is one of the petrochemical intermediate raw materials and can be used in the production of polyester and antifreeze.
