Sorbitol, also known as sorbitol, with the chemical formula C 6 H 14 O 6 , is the main photosynthesis product of plants in the Rosaceae family, and is mainly used as a sweetener, with a refreshing sweetness, sweetness about half that of sucrose, and a calorific value similar to that of sucrose. Sorbitol is not converted to glucose in the blood after being consumed and is not affected by insulin. Sorbitol has good moisturizing properties, can make the food maintain a certain degree of moisture to prevent drying, but also can prevent sugar, salt and other precipitation crystallization, can maintain the balance of sweet, sour, bitter intensity, enhance the flavor of the food, because it is a non-volatile polyol, so there is also to maintain the function of food aroma.

The use of Sorbitol in daily chemical industry
Sorbitol in toothpaste as excipient, moisturizing agent, antifreeze, the addition of up to 25 ~ 30%, can keep the paste lubrication, color, taste good; in cosmetics as anti-drying agent (instead of glycerol), can enhance the emulsifier of the stretch and lubrication, suitable for long term storage; sorbitanic anhydride fatty acid esters and its ethylene oxide adducts have the advantages of small irritation to the skin, in the cosmetic industry is widely used.
Sorbitol is an extremely versatile chemical raw material. Dehydration of sorbitol, hydrogenolysis, esterification, condensation with aldehydes, reaction with epoxy alkanes and synthesis of monomer polymerization or composite polymerization with a variety of monomers to form a series of new products with excellent performance and special functions.
Sorbitan anhydride fatty acid esters and their ethylene oxide adducts have the advantage of being less irritating to the skin and are widely used in the cosmetic industry.
Sorbitol is used with propylene oxide to produce Polyurethane rigid foam with flame retardant properties, or fatliquorized with synthetic fatty acids to produce oil-substituted alkyd resin paints. Sorbitol rosin is often the raw material for architectural coatings. Sorbitol resin is used as a plasticizer, lubricant applied to polyvinyl chloride resin and other Polymers, and can also be used as a plasticizer for architectural coatings, lubricant, and concrete water reducing agent.
Sorbitol complexes with iron, copper and aluminum ions in alkaline solutions and is used in bleaching and washing in the textile industry.
Sorbitol is also used in the field of electrochemistry. By electrodeposition of zinc-copper using alkaline sorbitol as a medium, uniform, smooth and crack-free platinum-colored zinc-copper coatings can be obtained. The addition of sorbitol as a complexing agent in the copper electroplating process helps to form copper films with fine particle size and strong adhesion. Zhang et al. used Ni/HZSM-5 as a catalyst to catalyze the preparation of biogasoline from sorbitol under liquid phase conditions [6] .
Isosorbide, the secondary dehydration product of sorbitol, is widely used as a novel bio-based material in food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plastics and polymers. Isosorbitol is an important intermediate in the preparation of Span and Tween surfactants. At present, one of the research hotspots for the application of isosorbide is to use it as a copolymerization monomer for the modification of polymers such as polyether, polycool, polyurethane cool, polycarbonate cool, etc., which can significantly improve the high temperature performance and impact resistance of polymers.
