Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium is an organic substance with the chemical formula [C6H7O2(OH)2OCH2COONa]_n, which is a carboxymethylated derivative of cellulose, and is the most important ionic cellulose gum. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is usually an anionic polymer compound produced by the reaction of natural cellulose and caustic soda and monochloroacetic acid, with molecular weight from thousands to millions.CMC-Na is a white fibrous or granular powder, odorless, tasteless, hygroscopic, easy to be dispersed in the water to form a transparent colloidal solution.

Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium is a water-soluble cellulose ether obtained by chemical modification of natural cellulose. Due to the acidic structure of carboxymethyl cellulose water solubility is not good, in order to be able to better its application, its products are commonly made into sodium salt.

Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium is one kind of Water Treatment Agent, it can be used as Flocculant for sewage treatment, mainly used for sewage sludge disposal, it can enhance the solid content of anaerobic granular sludge.
Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose is more effective than Sodium Gluconate in removing calcium ions when used as a flocculant, and has an exchange capacity of up to 1.6 ml/g when used for cation exchange.
