What is Petroleum Resin

Petroleum Resin is a kind of thermoplastic resin produced from C5 and C9 fractions by-products of petroleum cracking through pretreatment, polymerization, distillation and other processes, which is not a polymer but an oligomer with molecular weight between 300-3000. The advantages of petroleum resin are its low price, good miscibility and low melting point. Resin petroleum resin is named for its origin as a petroleum derivative. It has low acid value, good miscibility, resistance to water, ethanol, and chemicals, and is chemically stable to acids and alkalis, and has good viscosity regulation and thermal stability. Petroleum resin is generally not used alone, but as an accelerator, regulator, modifier and other resins together.
Classification of Petroleum Resins
Petroleum resins are generally categorized as C5 aliphatic, C9 aromatic, DCPD (cycloaliphatic), and pure monomers such as poly SM, AMS (alpha methyl styrene), etc. Their constituent molecules are hydrocarbons, so they are also called hydrocarbon resins (HCR). hydrocarbon resins (HCR).
Depending on the raw material, petroleum resins are divided into aliphatic resins (C5), alicyclic resins (DCPD), aromatic resins (C9), aliphatic/aromatic copolymerized resins (C5/C9), and hydrocarbon resins (C5 HCR, C9 HCR).
